Troubleshooting: Power BI access
The chatbot uses your Power BI sign-in to check your plan and to query the report's semantic model. If that sign-in can't be used, you'll typically see one of these:
- The chatbot works, but features available for the Pro license and above are not working even though your organisation has a paid plan.
- Questions about the report's data fail, while questions about uploaded documents work.
- A "Permission required. Click here to grant access" banner.
Quick checks
- Right account. Make sure you're signed in to Power BI (web or Desktop) with an account with the correct license. If you have several Microsoft accounts, sign out of the others.
- Supported environment. The chatbot can sign you in from Power BI Service (web), Power BI Desktop and Power BI Mobile. It cannot do so from Microsoft Teams, Power BI Embedded or Power BI Report Server; the Pro license is not available in these environments due to API limitations, but Free and Premium still work. In anonymous environments such as Publish to Web, the custom visual is only available in the Premium license as per Microsoft’s limitations, know more.
- Refresh. Close and reopen the report, or refresh the browser tab. Access tokens can expire.
- Consent banner. If you see Permission required, click Click here to grant access, accept the terms, then retry. If your organisation doesn't let users consent to apps, ask your admin to grant consent for everyone.
2. Known Authentication Issues
Power BI web: remove clientSideAuth=0 from the URL
Issues with the authorization banner can sometimes make Power BI Service open with clientSideAuth=0 as a URL parameter in the address bar, for example:
Remove &clientSideAuth=0 from the URL and reload the report.
Failing consent: Allow SSO in tenant settings
If you have not granted consent before, a popup will show up the first time the chatbot tries to access your semantic model. Granting consent will give the chatbot read permissions over your semantic model. If the banner doesn’t redirect you to Microsoft’s permissions page, or otherwise fails, you might need to contact your Power BI administrator.
If you have administrator privileges, check if the setting ‘AppSource Custom Visuals SSO’ is disabled. You can find this option inside Admin portal > Tenant settings > Power BI visuals. If the issue persists please contact the Creative Data support team.
3. Set the Semantic Model ID
